Chasing Nostalgia

I survived another week. This week was a week full of Deja Vus. I met an old face, got to look back to different moments, and revisit the past. The week started off with just a few lessons and activities for the second semester. Then here comes Wednesday. During the chapel service, the achievers for the first semester were recognized. I got my certificate for being a part of the students who got
‘With High Honors’. As I heard my name being called and my certificate being given, all the sleepless nights and the sudden breakdowns came to mind. All of them paid off. All of them were worth it. I was reminded that I worked hard for that title and shouldn’t be too hard on myself, I deserve to take credit at least. After that day, me and my friends decided to treat ourselves by eating outside together.

The next day, I had classes for half the day but I was too excited to be worried about that because I had a trip planned with my friends. We were going to Angat Buhay’s Museo ng Pag-Asa. The Museum was dedicated to the campaign rally of ex-vice president Leni Robredo. I was thrilled because I really wanted to go and finally, I will! Although, I was kind of worried because I wasn’t feeling well the earlier days but thankfully, I managed to feel okay by the time we had to meet up.

When we arrived at the museum, all of my excitement was drained as the guard told us the museum was already closed. I was disappointed alright, and so were my friends. However, after a few negotiations and pleas, the staff was kind enough to allow us to enter and roam around the place. As I entered, I was in total Nostalgia. Flashbacks of the campaign rallies entered my mind. I was in awe as I saw all the kakampinks’ gifts, artworks, and crafts during the campaign. It was like January - May 2022 again. During our stay, a tourist also approached us and told us we were indeed the ‘kabataan na pag-asa ng bayan’. He even asked our circle to make a video with him shouting
‘Kulay Rosas ang Bukas’.

I couldn’t help but feel so grateful that I was surrounded by people who fought the same battle as me. I was lucky that just like me, they all believed in the same thing, and that was that we just wanted good governance back then. I was also grateful that during this trip, I was with Rica. The same girl who was with me during the campaign period. I’m thankful that I was given the opportunity to fight alongside her. from hour-long political discussions, breakdowns, and acceptance stages to a revisit of the past. she was always there and she will always be a part of it all.

So this week, I am dedicating Taylor Swift's Only the Young. Just like what the tourist guide told us, we are the hope of the nation. Even if months had already passed, we still have our voices and fighting spirits. There is still hope. There can be change.
